Adam Rippon's Standout 'Dancing With The Stars' Performance Carried Special Meaning

Olympic figure skater Adam Rippon delivered a stellar contemporary performance on this week's all-athlete Dancing with the Stars. Rippon and his partner Jenna Johnson danced to Coldplay's "O," which Rippon skated to during this year's Winter Olympics.

Rippon dedicated the performance to his mother, Kelly, whom he called his "MVP," adding, "I don't think I've ever met anybody who's as smart, selfless, and who is as kind as my mom." He became emotional as he shared what she sacrificed for him to become a skater, and how she supported him when he came out in his early 20s.

For their performance, Rippon and Johnson wore feathered outfits and danced in a birdcage, bringing the song's lyrics about a "flock of birds" to life. Rippon's mom was in the audience cheering him on. "There's so much to be proud of with Adam," she shared before the performance. "I'm so grateful to be his mom."

The judges praised the dance, giving Rippon 39 points out of 40. "It is impossible to tell who is the professional," judge Bruno Tonioli told them. Next week, Rippon will face off against skater Tonya Harding and NFL player Josh Norman in the show's finale.
