Jimmy Fallon And Shawn Mendes Prove Everything's More Fun With Classroom Instruments

"Treat You Better" gets a nostalgic twist.

Leave it to Shawn Mendes and Jimmy Fallon to prove that sometimes, it's good to go back to the basics. The pair teamed up with The Roots on The Tonight Show to give a nostalgic twist to Mendes' song "Treat You Better" using classroom instruments you may remember from your school days.

In the past, Fallon has pulled out the rainbow xylophone and fruit shakers for everything from Camila Cabello's "Havana" to the Backstreet Boys' "I Want It That Way." The instruments, which also include a wood block and a set of spoons, give a more homemade feel to just about any song.

Another common characteristic of this segment is the joy it conveys. It's hard not to smile when you're playing an instrument you remember from your childhood music class. The whole group seems to be having a blast, and Fallon especially gets carried away with his role on the wood block, trying out some different sounds.

Viewers seemed impressed with the results. "Jimmy you killed that wood block," one user wrote on YouTube. "These are some very talented 4 year olds," wrote another. But really, who wouldn't want to feel 4 years old again, if only for the length of a pop song?
