The Crowd Went Wild For Shakira And Chris Martin's Spanish Duet At The Global Citizen Festival

Watch the pair perform "Chantaje."

On Thursday, a host of musicians, world leaders, and activists gathered for the 2017 Global Citizen Festival. This year's event, the first to take place in Europe, was held at Barclaycard Arena in Hamburg, Germany, on the eve of the G20 summit.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made an appearance at the event to speak about women's empowerment and introduce Coldplay. The band's frontman, Chris Martin, is the curator of the festival, which gives free tickets to citizens who display a commitment to social causes.

Coldplay was joined on stage by Colombian singer Shakira. She and Martin performed several of their respective hits together, including Shakira's "Chantaje." Martin took on the part of the duet performed in the studio version by fellow Colombian singer Maluma.

Martin sang the song in its original Spanish, and the crowd went wild when he came in with his first line. He and Shakira had an amazing onstage rapport, laughing together when Shakira called him "pretty boy," one of the song's only English phrases. "Awesome night with Chris Martin and @coldplay !!!" Shakira wrote on Instagram after the show.
