Rebecca Black Has A New Song And You're Probably Going To Put It On Repeat

"Friday" is so yesterday ...

Rebecca Black of "Friday" fame continues to claw her way back into the spotlight.

But unlike the polarizing viral hit from five years ago, the 19-year-old has been surprising us with some new offerings lately that suggest she's gotten serious with her craft and is serious about making her dreams of singing a reality.

Just last month she dropped a video via Elle magazine in which she crooned a few recent hits from the likes of Justin Timberlake and Drake, as well as the song that made her famous.

Now, Black is out with the music video for her song "The Great Divide." With a video shot in what looks to be an abandoned warehouse, the song has a Katy Perry-esque feel, which should come as no surprise given that the singer featured Black in the music video for her 2011 song, "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)." But here, instead of waxing poetic about the end of the week, Black sings empowering lines about breaking away from a relationship gone bad. "Dancing on the line / Of the great divide / Wash my hands, turn my back / I don't need the memories we had / I'm leaving you behind / Across the great divide," she sings, channeling serious confidence that's carried over to real life.

"I just wanted to prove everyone wrong," she says in a teary intro to the video, noting about how she really wanted to come back and prove to others that she could sing. "But at the same time, now that it's here, I have that [confidence] within myself and I don't need [others' approval] anymore."

Black's comments and her commitment are commendable. Here is a young lady who could have easily hid in obscurity after some of the vitriolic comments made about her upon "Friday's" release. But she's proving that dreams can still come true and that belief in yourself is key to making others believe in you as well.

Check out the video above and let us know your thoughts about Rebecca's new direction in the comments.
