Jay-Z Opens The Latest 'SNL' Season By Showing Support For Colin Kaepernick

The show's 43rd season premiered last night.

Jay-Z brought the conversation around the #TakeAKnee demonstrations to NBC's flagship show when the rapper and music mogul performed the first of two songs on last night's episode of Saturday Night Live while wearing a Colin Kaepernick jersey.

Appearing with Damian Marley on the show's 43rd season premiere — hosted by Ryan Gosling — Jay-Z didn't verbally address the recent NFL protests but sported a custom jersey printed with Kaepernick's number 7 and the name "Colin K" on the back for his performance of "Bam."

Viewers were quick to notice, and the move earned Jay Z praise on social media.

In recent months, Jay-Z has become much more outspoken with his activism, especially with regards to the bail system and criminal justice reform. During his first headlining concert in three years in September, Jay-Z performed the song "O.J." in honor of both Kaepernick and the late activist and comedian Dick Gregory.

"I want to dedicate this song to anyone that was held back and you overcame," Jay-Z said.
