This Irish Teen Got To Perform An Original Song For Her Idol Ellen DeGeneres

Ellen had a surprise for her, too.

Ellen DeGeneres received a visit from one of her biggest fans this week, and she traveled all the way from Ireland. Eimear O'Tuathail is 17 years old and said being on the show is "the only thing I've ever wanted to do" because DeGeneres is her "idol."

O'Tuathail was there to perform an original song she wrote, but first she talked about fulfilling her dream to see a real palm tree ("They're so tall," she said) and shared that she's read all of DeGeneres' books. In fact, they're just about the only books she's read that weren't for school.

The teen went on to reveal that she's been playing the piano since she was 7 years old, and was inspired to work harder by a young pianist named Emily Bear, who appeared on DeGeneres' show. O'Tuathail then performed an original song for the host called "Hey Ellen," in which she shared what a big fan she is and called DeGeneres "that daily reminder to be kind to one another."

DeGeneres also had quite the surprise for the young talent. Not only did she gift her with the Starbucks drink and lip balm she had been excited to get while in the States but she also gave her a check from Shutterfly — something O'Tuathail joked about in her song. It was for $10,000, to put toward her college education.
