We Suggest You Pay 'Attention' To Halsey's Smooth Cover Of Charlie Puth's Hit

You won't regret it.

If you saw Halsey's Spice Girls performance with Charli XCX at Lollapalooza, you may have been looking forward to hearing the 23-year-old try her hand at a few other covers. In that case, her recent performance on Elvis Duran and the Morning Show is just what you've been waiting for.

In addition to singing her recent single "Bad at Love" from her newest album Hopeless Fountain Kingdom, Halsey also took on Charlie Puth's hit song "Attention." The singer had to have her phone on hand to glance at the lyrics from time to time, but it definitely didn't detract from the performance, which was backed up by three band members.

Also notable about Halsey's cover is that she didn't do away with or change references that suggest a female subject ("dress" and "perfume," for example). Over the summer, Halsey released a track called "Strangers" with Fifth Harmony's Lauren Jauregui. Both women have been open about their bisexuality, and the love song uses female pronouns — a first for Halsey.

"I just love that Lauren and I are two women who have a mainstream pop presence doing a love song for the LGBTQ community," Halsey said of the song in an interview around its release. "It's unheard of. It's very rare to see it from a female perspective."
