It's surprisingly poignant.

British singer Ed Sheeran doesn't appear in his latest music video for the song "Happier," but we're still adding it to our favorites. Filling in for the musician is a puppet who shares similar red hair and beard. We watch him trying to get over his ex-girlfriend, who happens to be made out of balloons and dating someone new — another puppet who looks like he would fit right in on Sesame Street.

It may not sound serious, but the video is surprisingly poignant, especially with the real-life Sheeran singing the track's emotional lyrics: "'Cause baby you look happier, you do / My friends told me one day I'll feel it, too / And until then I'll smile to hide the truth / But I know I was happier with you."

Sheeran's puppet alter ego previously appeared in his 2014 music video for "Sing," featuring Pharrell. According to MTV, the puppet was designed by Steve Troop and BJ Guyer of Puppet Design Studios. They even included Sheeran's many tattoos. Guyer called the puppet the "anti-Ed," causing a ruckus on a night out. Here, he seems to have grown up a bit — if puppets can even do that.
