Demi Lovato performed her new song "Sober" live for the first time this weekend at Rock in Rio Lisbon. The lyrics to the new track, released last week, reveal that the 25-year-old has relapsed after six years of sobriety. According to Billboard, the emotional first performance brought her to tears on Sunday.

Lovato shared video from the concert on Twitter. The singer sat at a piano to perform, and as she sang that she was "sorry for the fans I lost," the crowd broke into cheers. Many fans and fellow artists shared their support for Lovato on Twitter after her song was released, praising her for her honesty about addiction's ongoing battle.

"Tonight I took the stage, a new person with a new life," Lovato wrote on Twitter, to tens of thousands of retweets. "Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout this journey. It will never be forgotten."

Lovato has been open about her struggles with addiction, mental illness, and an eating disorder throughout her career, and has even set out to help fans at her concerts. Although she doesn't specify the nature of her relapse on the new track (aside from a reference to "drinks spilled on the floor"), she closes the lyrics by singing, "I promise I'll get help."

According to Entertainment Tonight, Lovato's first live performance since the song's release was a Thursday night concert in Barcelona. Fans reported that she did not perform "Sober" during that event, but she did share some wisdom with the crowd.

"Life is really, really funny sometimes," she said in a video from the evening. "It can be difficult, but, for the most part, if you do what makes you happy and set yourself free, you'll live an amazing life."
