They got the idea to cover the song from a fan's tweet.

At this point, if you're still sleeping on Chvrches, you're only doing a disservice to yourself. The Scottish synth-pop band's upcoming third studio album Love Is Dead doesn't come out until May, but they recently stopped by BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge to perform one of its singles, "Get Out."

As is tradition in the Live Lounge, Chvrches also performed a cover of another band's song. They took on English rock band The 1975's hit song "Somebody Else" — and they got the idea from a tweet last June.

Last year, Radio 1 and 1Xtra reporter Steve Holden pointed out on Twitter that "Somebody Else" sounded like "a Chvrches-esque banger" at double speed. He played a snippet of the track on vinyl to prove it.

Flash forward to this week and Chvrches delivered their rendition of the song, which they kept close to The 1975's take.

"We didn't deviate too much from the original. We just love this song so much [that] we respected the original ... We want to keep it as intended," Chvrches said of the cover, describing their version as a "ballad banger."
