In a new song off her upcoming album Cry Pretty, Carrie Underwood shares her thoughts on the political division currently on display in the United States. As the song's title states, the singer ultimately believes that "Love Wins."

The song begins with an apparent reference to gun violence, as Underwood sings, "Stray bullet and a mama cries / Her baby won't be coming home tonight / Sirens screaming down the avenue / Just another story on the evening news."

"Politics and prejudice / How the hell'd it ever come to this," Underwood continues. "When everybody's gotta pick a side / It don't matter if you're wrong or right."

In the chorus, Underwood sings, "I believe you and me are sisters and brothers / And I believe we're made to be here for each other / And we'll never fall if we walk hand in hand / Put a world that seems broken together again / Yeah, I believe in the end love wins."

Underwood reportedly told Taste of Country and other outlets that writing the song was "scary," as she didn't want the message to be misinterpreted, but aimed for it to be "hopeful" and highlight that people are "inherently good."

"We weren't trying to speak negatively about our world, because we live in an amazing world, but I feel like we get really caught up in surface things and I feel like in this world, we're quick to get angry at each other," she explained. "I personally think that we're all different for a reason. I feel like if you just sit down and talk to somebody who's not like you and keep it calm, we can all learn from each other."

"Love Wins" isn't the only relevant commentary on Underwood's new album (out September 14). According to Rolling Stone, another song called "The Bullet" is about gun violence. The outlet also points out that the phrase "love wins" is associated with LGBTQ rights, which Underwood has vocally supported. In fact, she faced backlash from evangelical fans for her support of same-sex marriage — proving just how important the message of her new song really is.
