'Voice' Singer Brooke Simpson Brought Down The House With An Emotional Cover Of Kesha's 'Praying'

"You represented the power of music."

The Top 12 singers on this season of The Voice performed in their very first live shows on Monday, with standout contestant Brooke Simpson kicking things off. We've been impressed with Simpson since her blind audition turned all four coaches' chairs, and especially last week when she slayed a James Brown classic.

This week, Simpson performed an emotional cover of Kesha's recent single "Praying" for Team Miley, and she did not disappoint. Kesha herself described the song earlier this year as being about "coming to feel empathy for someone else even if they hurt you or scare you."

Simpson, who hails from a Native American community in North Carolina, said she was dedicating the performance to America. Not only did she nail the high notes, but she also beautifully captured the emotion of the song, even ending the performance with tears in her eyes.

According to Gossip Cop, coach Jennifer Hudson told Simpson that she "represented the power of music" and "showed what this show is about." Miley Cyrus agreed, hesitating to say that Simpson stole the show since she was only the first performance, but adding, "I think you might've."

We'll find out for certain during tonight's results show, but we have a feeling Simpson is safe.
