Halloween came early on Monday night as Ariana Grande performed a song from the hit Broadway musical Wicked as part of NBC's 15th anniversary TV special. Grande has been a fan of the show since childhood, and her rendition of "The Wizard and I" did not disappoint.

Grande belted out the song (originally performed by Idina Menzel as Elphaba) while dressed in green. Vulture declared it "the best part" of A Very Wicked Halloween, and fans on Twitter were blown away the performance. Some outlets pointed out that this is the singer's first performance since the death of her ex-boyfriend Mac Miller and her split from fiancé Pete Davidson.

Earlier this month, Grande posted on Instagram that she was "honored to be included in this celebration of 15 years of my favorite musical of all time," adding that she "wouldn't miss it for the whole universe."

The show's original star Kristin Chenoweth, who also appeared with Grande in 2016's Hairspray Live!, told PopSugar that she expected she would cry over the 25-year-old's performance, adding that they met when Grande was a kid and Chenoweth was still performing as Glinda.

"I talk to her all the time," Chenoweth said. "And this is a full circle moment because I met her when she was 9 and she wanted to do this show."
