I Asked Dads 'What's The Best Dating Advice You'd Give Your Kids?'

When it comes to modern dating, does father really know best?

They say, "Father knows best," but when it comes to dating, do dads really know anything? After all, social media and dating apps have changed the dating scene quite a bit since they were in it. Still, that doesn't mean dear old dad can't share some tried-and-true dating advice with their kids — and anyone else who may need it.

To perform a much-needed civic duty and celebrate Father's Day, I took to the streets in search of dating-savvy dads.

Once I found them, I asked them a seemingly simple question: "What's the best dating advice you'd give your kids?"

Ryan, a father of a 14-year-old boy and 10-year-old girl, emphasized the importance of dating with decency. "The best thing I would tell both of them is 'Just treat the person [you're dating] with kindness and respect,' " he said. "If things work out, great. But if they don't, be tactful. Be kind about it."

Bill, a father with a 15-year-old son, advised, "Try to find somebody that makes you laugh, because that's what it's all about: having fun and finding somebody you can get a kick out of for a long time."

Jonathon, another father of two, shared some simple, yet fool-proof, dating advice. "Just be yourself. Don't try to be anybody to impress anybody. Don't chase after anyone," he said. "Just be yourself, and the right person will come along. And if it's right, it's right. If it's not, then it's not, and you'll be happy in the end."

So while fathers might not have the perfect answer to every dating dilemma, they still seem to know best — because they always want the best for their kids.
