LGBTQ+ Pride Month

Two LGBTQ+ Women Get Honest About The Importance Of Representation In Hollywood

"I need younger kids ... to know that it's completely normal."

To kick off June's LGBTQ+ Pride Month — and A Plus' theme of "There's No One Way to Be Gay" — we hosted a discussion between two LGBTQ+ women about representation of the community in TV shows and movies.

Lauren and Rita shared their thoughts on how LGBTQ+ characters are portrayed on screen, what they'd like to see more and less of in film, and discuss why seeing characters like them is so important.

"It matters because I need to see me onscreen," Lauren says. "I need younger kids who don't know their sexuality to know that it's completely normal to be gay, and look at all these different people who have these different lives."

This is the first of a series of videos you'll see on A Plus this Pride Month, which will explore various topics through in-depth discussions with the people who have experience with them. Check out our clips about dating and relationships, health care, and how transgender men are battling sexism.
