Get Excited, Because This New 'Star Wars' Cartoon Is All About The Galaxy's Awesome Women

We've got a good feeling about this.

We've been hearing a lot about Star Wars this week, as the cast just revealed a new Force for Change contest, and the trailer for The Last Jedi is expected to premiere soon. But this latest news is especially exciting because it's all about the ladies.

Star Wars: Forces of Destiny, premiering this summer, will be a new series of 16 animated shorts, available online and on the Disney Channel, that will focus on the series' iconic female characters. Daisy Ridley and Felicity Jones are returning to voice Rey and Jyn Erso, with other iconic characters such as Princess Leia, Padmé Amidala, and more getting their own stories. And if that isn't enough to get you pumped, Lupita Nyong'o will be back as Maz Kanata to narrate the series.

According to Mashable, there will also be a line of "adventure figures" modeled after our favorite women. This is welcome news considering the criticism surrounding a lack of Rey merchandise around the time of the Force Awakens premiere.

"For many years, something that's been really important to Star Wars is these characters that little kids can grow up and recognize a little bit of themselves," Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy says in the Forces of Destiny first look.

We can't wait to go on these new adventures.
