An 18-Year-Old Artist Constructs Her Own Surreal Reality In This Captivating Photo Series

"I don't want realism. I want magic."

"I don't want realism. I want magic," 18-year-old artist Luisa Azevedo writes on her Instagram account. So, in a series of surreal images, Azevedo creates a dream-like world only she can imagine — and it's beautiful.

In a post on Bored Panda, Azevedo explains that she only picked up photography at the age of 15. Later, she taught herself Photoshop and has since been working on manipulating her photos. Now, Azevedo lives in Lisbon, Portugal, and studies at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Lisbon.

"For the last two years, I've been composing surreal images merging unexpected objects, figures, and locations using real-life photographs," Azevedo writes. I try to create a dream-like world through my images where everything is possible. I believe there's no limit to imagination and creativity."

Azevedo's photos feature everything from flamingos with rose bodies, a person canoeing and gliding across a field of daisies, treehouses made of broccoli, and a squirrel climbing atop the Empire State Building, all captivating in their own way.
