Adidas Teams With 10 Female Artists To Create ‘Walks Of Art’ Representing All 50 U.S. States

These shoes weren't meant for walking, but they'll leave an impression.

Adidas and Refinery29 teamed up with female artists from all over the U.S. to create masterpieces for your feet. The unique twist? There's a unique design for each of the 50 states. The shoes aren't necessarily meant to be worn, and that's the fundamental purpose of art — it's meant to entice the senses, make you think, and just enjoy the overall beauty in things.

Although the UltraBOOST X Adidas shoe isn't the traditional canvas for artists such as Meagan Morrison to paint on, that's what made it so exciting for her. Morrison said she was inspired by the landscapes that women would be running through when they visit each of the states to come up with the concept for some of her pieces.

Morrison said she was honored to be joining nine other female artists — Mari Orr, Sophia Chang, Jordana Schrager, Carrie Chan, Jenny K, Lizzie Darden, Bree Poort, Jen Mussari, and Maria Castillo — in "celebrating diversity and highlighting the beauty of these 50 states."

Here are some highlights from the Adidas UltraBOOST X running sneaker 50 state collection of art pieces:

1. Iowa by Mari Orr

Iowa has a lot of farm land, and this canvas by Mari Orr not only gives the beholder an artistic view of texture and depth, but also, it gives you an aerial view of what Iowa would look like from an airplane window through the mind of the artist's eye.

2. California by Meagan Morrison

California is known as "The Golden State," but it's also synonymous with Hollywood and palm trees, which everyone pictures when they think of California. Morrison painted a nice Hollywood silhouette of palm trees with a golden sunset to represent its easygoing vibe.

3. Wisconsin by Lizzie Darden

If you've never been to Wisconsin, you should definitely go! It's known for the Wisconsin Dells attractions and, of course, its dairy — cheese! What better to go with your big cheese than a Ritz cracker?

4. Kentucky by Jen Mussari

Kentucky is known as "The Bluegrass State" for its lush, bluish-green grass, but is also well known for the Kentucky Derby, for which this piece gets its inspiration. The "Garland of Roses" or "winner's wreath" is what comes to mind when you see this work of art.

5. Georgia by Lizzie Darden

Georgia, of course known for its delectable Georgia peaches, is represented well by artist Lizzie Darden, who has a knack for food as art.

6. Nebraska by Mari Orr

Here's the artistic representation of Nebraska by Mari Orr, which she brings to life the beautiful yellow wildflowers that can be seen for miles in some parts of its flat lands.

7. Oklahoma by Jen Mussari

Oklahoma is known for having the nickname "Native America" and derives from the Chocktaw words "okla" and "humma," meaning "red people." This Native American-influenced piece looks a lot like a moccasin with feathers.

8. Maine by Lizzie Darden

There's something about Maine that just makes the lobsters there so huge, they're practically a phenomenon. This is another piece by Darden that's simple yet intricate.

9. South Dakota by Mari Orr

Finally, in our nine-piece lineup is South Dakota, which is home to one of the United States' most popular attractions, Mount Rushmore. This is another piece by Mari Orr and she did a wonderful job with elements, texture, color, and we love the little guy climbing the side.
