Zelda Williams Opens Up About Grieving Her Father, Robin Williams, While In The Public Eye

August 11 will mark the four year anniversary of Robin Williams's passing.

August 11, 2018 will mark the four year anniversary of Robin Williams's passing. July 21 is the actor's birthday, and July 31 is his daughter's, Zelda Williams, birthday.

Ahead of the occasions, Zelda took to Instagram to express her thoughts on what it's like to lose a father and have to grieve while in the public eye.

"It's that time of year again." she wrote on July 19. "Everyone who has dealt with loss knows the pain of certain anniversaries, moments full of memory that come round like clockwork and usurp all others, no matter how hard you may try to prepare for or avoid them."

Williams explains these weeks are the hardest for her so she will be reducing her time online and social media, if she goes on at all. "For all the internet's good intentions in expressing to me their fondness for dad, it's very overwhelming to have strangers need me to know how much they cared for him right now," she explained. "It's harder still to be expected to reach back."

"While I’ve got the strength, consider this my one open-armed response, before I go take my yearly me time to celebrate his and my birthdays in peace."

"Thank you for loving him. Thank you for supporting him and his life’s work. Thank you for missing him. I do too."

Williams stated that if people would like to do something in her dad's honor, they can "creatively swear a lot," volunteer at a homeless shelter, and "look up how to make homeless aid backpacks" and donate one in Robin Williams's name. She also listed organizations her dad loved: the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF), and David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.

Williams also encouraged people to try and spread kindness and laughter.
