The Best Time To Take A Vacation Is Now — Here's Why

The Japanese have a word for death from overworking: Karoshi.

"I need a vacation" could be one of the most frequently uttered sentences at the workplace. Whether you love or hate your job, there's truly nothing like taking a break from the real world to just do absolutely nothing. Our mind, however, is wont to come up with excuses for us to keep on chugging without a pause. But there are plenty of reasons why you should take that vacation now, with not a moment to spare.

Don't get us wrong — the saying "choose a job you love and you'll never have to work a day in your life" rings true, but even if that is the case, how often do we actually take a well-deserved break? One survey showed that 41 percent of American workers don't take their paid time off.

Vacations are more than just about having fun: studies found that those who don't take time off increase their risk of stroke and coronary heart disease, an epidemic for which the Japanese have a word: "karoshi," which translates to "death from overwork."

There's something for every vacationer, whether it's one that won't break the bank or a more environmentally friendly trip. Time to book that long-awaited flight ticket already.
