One Of This Year's Most Thrilling Sports Events Is About To Take Place, And Hardly Anyone Knows About It

We're SO excited!

After a month of bubbling action, drama and heartbreak in a tournament played to far less international fanfare than its male counterpart, it has come down to this. The Women's World Cup Final will pit Japan and the U.S., the 2011 finalists, against each other again. If you've missed every single game up to this point and want to finally get in on the action that those in the know have been whispering about, here's when the Women's World Cup Final is showing

Taking place in BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, the final will be played at 7 p.m. EST on Sunday, July 5. It's expected to be a nail-biting rematch of the last FIFA Women's World Cup Final that Japan ultimately won. But this time, the U.S. Women's National Team (USWNT) is far stronger and more confident than it was four years ago. The U.S. team triumphed over their "Group of Death," edged out Germany, the world's No. 1 soccer team, in the semi-final with an assured 2-0 result. It's also breaking all kinds of records, returning to the final for a record fourth time (Germany has only three final appearances) and aiming for a record third Women's World Cup trophy.

By these measures, the USWNT is racking up considerably better results than the U.S. Men's Soccer Team.

Granted, there could be more media hype surrounding the match, but its players are gaining unprecedented attention from the mainstream media. Even with limited media coverage, at its peak, the Germany-USA semifinal had 12.1 million viewers, the most watched game in the tournament so far.

The U.S. women's soccer team has consistently ranked as one of the best teams in the world.  Despite the stark difference in accomplishments, many still scoff at women's sports. Here are some of the highlights from the Germany vs. USA semifinal to prove them wrong.
