15 Women Hold Up Their Underwear To Send A Powerful Message About Sexual Assault

Sunday, March 8 is International Women's Day.

Sunday, March 8 is International Women's Day and girls and women around the world, including stars like Emma Watson, will show their support for women's rights.

According to the World Health Organization, 35 percent of women have experienced a form of violence in their lifetime. In other words, women's basic right to safety — among other rights like education and representation in positions of power — fall short.

Because of this, and in honor of International Women's Day, artist aleXsandro Palombo wanted to give these women a voice. His work often centers around human rights and social issues. This project, the #BriefMessage campaign, is no different.

He asked women on his social platforms to write an empowering message against violence against women and compiled his favorites in a photo series. Some of the contributors, he told A+, have been victims themselves.

"Women were often/are still seen as an object, especially sexual object," he said. "Their messages are smart, powerful and ironic."

See for yourself. It's pretty "brief."
