Tom Hanks Took A Moment While Promoting His Book To Help With A Marriage Proposal

"America's Dad" strikes again.

If you know enough about Tom Hanks, it should come as no surprise that he took a moment at the Texas Book Festival over the weekend to help a couple of fans get engaged. They don't call him "America's Dad" for nothing.

The proposal took place in Austin on Saturday, where Hanks was talking about his new short story collection, Uncommon Type: Some Stories. According to The Associated Press, at one point during the Q&A, Hanks said he was tired of answering questions and instead wanted to ask one.

The actor reportedly took out a piece of paper and announced that Ryan McFarling, who was in the audience, had a question for Nikki Young. The question was, of course, "Nikki, will you marry me?"

Hanks then brought the couple on stage for McFarthing to propose. Young's shocked reaction, as well as the couple's onstage kiss, was captured in a few sweet Twitter photos. Needless to say, she said yes.

According to E! News, the couple later spoke to journalist Molly Oak from KVUE News, which also shared footage from the proposal. Young said she was a "super fangirl" for Hanks, and showed off the question sheet the actor read from on stage, as well as the flower he gave her.

"I don't even know how he did it, but he did it, and magic happened," Young said of McFarling's gesture. "Most epic proposal ever."

It's just one of several awesome things Hanks has done for fans. In 2015, he returned a college student's lost ID card, and last year he sent the perfect response to a fan's letter.

And don't forget all the espresso machines he's donated to the White House press corps over the years. In March, he sent along a note encouraging them to "Keep up the good fight for Truth, Justice, and the American Way."
