Whoopi Goldberg Made An Important Point After Tiffany Trump Was Bullied Online

Doesn't matter whose daughter she is: this is not OK.

View co-host and frequent Donald Trump critic Whoopi Goldberg came out in defense of the president's youngest daughter Tiffany after various fashion outlets tweeted that she had seemingly been the focal point of public shunning during a recent event at New York Fashion Week.

Goldberg discussed the alleged shunning by explicitly mentioning the sources behind the rumor: tweets by a "senior fashion editor" at Elle magazine and two by fashion writer Christina Binkley which were shown on screen and seemed less than charitable.

Although Binkley later walked back her commentary by telling the Huffington Post that the seats were "almost immediately filled by other guests," while explaining to Refinery29 that it was a "case of musical chairs," Goldberg's initial response to the tweets were almost maternal in their defense of the young socialite the next day.

""You know what, Tiffany, I'm supposed to go to a couple more shows. I don't know what's going to happen, but I'm coming to sit with you," Goldberg said on The View. "Because nobody's talking politics. You're looking at fashion! She doesn't want to talk about her dad! She's looking at the fashion!"

Goldberg pre-empted critics who might have been eager to compare the apparent bullying of Tiffany to her sister Ivanka's clothing line being removed from Nordstrom stores. "That's all about buying stuff. You're buying stuff," Goldberg clarified. "This girl is looking at fashion, and she's just looking at fashion."

Tiffany apparently got the message because she tweeted an acceptance of the offer.

Goldberg's point was made. Excluding people for whatever reasons or celebrating their social exclusion on something as volatile and open to misunderstanding as social media is an unkind thing to do. Kudos to Goldberg for her fairness and to Tiffany for the grace and aplomb with which she handled herself both at the shows and online.
