This 50-Year-Old Mom's Cosplay Skills Are Next Level

"It was so successful that I did not want to stop."

From little girls dressing up as Wonder Woman to show just how much representation in film matters to people transforming themselves into popular comic book characters using nothing but makeup, we've been seriously impressed by the skills of cosplayers in the past few years. But recently, an unexpected cosplayer caught our eye and reminded us that costume play can be seriously fun regardless of your age.

Fifty-year-old mom Solange Amorim from Manaus, Brazil, recently went viral after sharing some of her excellent cosplays on her Facebook page. She runs the page under her nickname "Tia Sol" (Auntie Sun). In the posts, she shared photos expertly dressed up as Muriel Bagge from Courage the Cowardly Dog, the Fairy Godmother from Shrek, Yubaba from Spirited Away, and more.

"It all started with a simple bet, and there goes 3 years of pure love," she wrote in Portuguese. "And if God allows me I'll want to do much more."

The post amassed nearly 18,000 shares, more than 9,000 likes, and 1,600 comments. Many of those comments were from people commending Amorim on her outfits and sharing that they hope to do the same when they're her age.

Amorim would often attend cosplay events with her daughter, Jessica. At first, only Jessica would dress up until a friend challenged Amorim to do the same.

"A friend asked me if I had the courage to do cosplay," Amorim explained to A Plus. "I said I did, but she did not believe me. I accepted the challenge. I won the bet [and] she had to pay the dressmaker for me."

Her first cosplay was Granny from the Looney Tunes. "It was so successful that I did not want to stop," she said.

"What I like most in cosplay is to be able to bring people happiness, to see people reach [out to] me and talk," she said. "[It's] made me relive my childhood. This is priceless."

Cosplay has helped Amorim develop friendships and meet a lot of new people, but it's also created a special way for her to bond with her daughter. "Cosplay only made the love grow between me and my daughter because it is very united," she said. "She is very proud of me and I of her."
