This High Schooler's T-Shirt Is Making Waves Thanks To Its Message Of Tolerance

"If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."

Remember when your parents used to say, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all"?

Well, a Texas teenager is taking that lesson to a new level. In a photo he posted to Twitter, Aaron Tamez, a 17-year-old from Houston, is wearing a shirt with a similar message.

"Why be racist, sexist, homophobic, or transphobic when you could just be quiet?" it says.

In an interview with BuzzFeed News, Aaron said he "had problems in the past with people being homophobic."

"I have been a victim of bullying because I am gay and, yes, I have overcome all of those obstacles in my life," Aaron said. "And when I saw the shirt I was amazed because of the message the shirt says."

When Aaron's tweet went viral, other Twitter users began sharing similar clothing with positive messages of acceptance on them.

Aaron told BuzzFeed News he was really glad to see his shirt resonating with people.

"It feels amazing to see everyone 'ooing and awwing' at this [shirt] and seeing them interact with the message," he said.
