14-Year-Old Mows Lawns To Take Girlfriend On 'Real' Date, Proving That Chivalry Isn't Dead

Boyfriend level: +10000.

When Ryan Cox of Oakdale, Calif., got a knock on his door and found 14-year-old Cody Mitschelen offering to mow his lawn for $5, he was a little skeptical. "I told him no, right off the get," Cox told KCRA.

As Mitschelen dejectedly walked away, however, Cox had a change of heart.

In a Facebook post that has since gone viral, Cox wrote, "... me being a hustler, I had to ask this kid why you mowing lawns? He replied with ... 'I'd like to take my girlfriend to lunch tomorrow and I don't have enough money.' "

Impressed by the boy's initiative and work ethic, Cox decided to help Mitschelen out, taking him around the neighborhood to mow lawns and sweep driveways. His neighbors were eager to help out. "I told him, I know you're in high school and it's embarrassing to walk around with them, but get her flowers," said client Timmy Jaramillo in an interview with the Star-Telegram

According to Today, Mitschelen soon earned enough to take his girlfriend, Audrey Fierro, to lunch. He even took Jaramillo's advice, buying her a bouquet of flowers and giving them to Fierro at school. "I was really happy when he surprised me with the flowers," Fierro told the Star-Telegram with Mitschelen adding, "She was blushing."

When Mitschelen and Fierro arrived for their first date at Safari Pizza in Oakdale, they got a nice surprise.

According to the Star-TelegramSafari Pizza owner Jesse Lopez heard about the young man's commitment and went out of his way to make their date extra special, putting a white tablecloth and candles on their table ... after checking with Mitschelen first, of course. KCRA reported that Lopez didn't charge for their meal, leaving Mitschelen with enough money for two more dates.

In a chat with KCRAFierro summarized what the community of Oakdale already knows. "He's definitely a keeper," she said.
