This Target Has A 'Feeding Station' Smack Dab In The Middle Of The Store, And Parents Are Rejoicin'

Visit a "nursery nook."

Public breastfeeding has been a controversial topic of debate among parents and non-parents alike. More and more, however, the practice is being accepted and normalized — after all, it is one of the most natural things a mother can do. And some big brands are leading by example when it comes to acceptance.

A Target in New Braunfels, Texas has set up a "nursing nook" in the middle of its store for new mothers to sit comfortably and breastfeed. A photo of the nook — which is complete with comfy chairs, free nursing pads, blankets, and covers — was shared on the Breastfeeding Mama Talk Facebook Page, where it quickly went viral.

If you're hoping your local Target will soon have a feeding station of its own, Target spokesperson Kristy Welker told the Huffington Post there are, unfortunately, no immediate plans to expand the feeding stations into different stores.

In late 2016,  however, the company did begin testing "designated nursing rooms" at two stores in Minnesota, and will take customer feedback into consideration about whether they will expand beyond these.

Whether the feeding rooms will be a reality in all stores or not, Welker points out that Target does have an inclusive breastfeeding policy, which states that shoppers can breastfeed openly in stores without the concern that they will feel unwelcome. And those looking to feed their babies in private can do so in a fitting room. They are even permitted to skip the line of people waiting to try on clothes.

It is moves like these that are helping to end the stigma about public breastfeeding while helping to make nursing a child easier for parents.
