82-Year-Old Makes Dumplings By Day, And DJs At Night — And Only Got Started In Her 70s

"The best thing is for my audience to enjoy themselves."

At 82 years old, Japan's first octogenarian DJ isn't slowing down.

Sumiko Iwamuro, who also runs a dumpling restaurant, goes by DJ Sumirock and plays at DecabarZ in Tokyo. According to Mashable, she began DJing in her 70s after her husband passed away.

"She's got this energy that goes beyond age, and that can equal any young person's here," Fuminari Fujii, a 25-year-old clubber, told Reuters

"When I spin the tables, I just want to match the beat, choose the right music," Iwamuro says. "But the best thing is for my audience to enjoy themselves."

DJ Sumirock is proof that it's never too late to follow your dreams — and she's not the first of her age to do so. Late last year, Instagram star Baddie Winkle became a beauty brand's muse at 88 years old. She's also appeared in a Fergie music video and starred in a clothing campaign, too.

According to reports, Iwamuro hopes to play in New York someday — and we don't think there's anything that should stop her from doing what she loves.
