When A Teen Asked His Gay Best Friend To Prom, It Sent A Powerful Message

For high schoolers, prom season can bring a lot of stress.

And for Anthony Martinez, a gay teen, it's meant helping plan prom, but never getting asked to go.

Until now.

Martinez took to Tumblr and Twitter to announce that his straight best friend, Jacob Lescenski, asked him to the dance.

He wrote:

Guess who got asked to prom! BY A STRAIGHT GUY (Army pants). he's my best friend, and a real man given the fact he has the guts to fulfill my gay student council dream of always helping out planning dances, and never getting asked. I couldn't ask for a better person in my life. Thank you Jacob can't wait for May 2nd!

There have been plenty of inspirational promposals. But this one isn't just about getting asked to go to prom in a cute way.

It's about a new generation of people rallying together around a positive message, and creating a voice for their community.

Moreover, this promposal's gone viral not because of a clever sign or a creative gesture.

It's gone viral because so many people are touched by this friendship. And it's illuminated a promising path.

To put it simply, it's made us, and people all over the world, proud.
