‘Despacito’ May Be The Song Of The Summer, But These 13 Tracks Are Also Making 2017 Sizzle

From newcomers to people going solo to established hitmakers.

Each year there's always a huge debate of which artist or artists will be lucky enough to say they have the "Song of the Summer." Billboard has compiled a comprehensive list of these tunes reaching back to 1958 all the way up until 2016 — and that's because the battle for the top spot for this year's banger is still wide open.

That said, there's a clear frontrunner. "Despacito" by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee, along with it's Justin Bieber-featuring remix, have been taking the world by storm since its release at the start of the year — making it one of the few non-English songs to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In addition, the Bieber-less music video has racked up nearly 2.7 billion views on YouTube, and both versions have nearly 1.2 billion streams combined on Spotify. There's no doubt about it: "Despacito" is clearly #winning.

But what about the other songs that are being blasted at cookouts, on the beach, or from cars with their windows rolled down? There are plenty of other options out there and, just for the sake of getting them out there, we are going to mention a few up front. It seems like DJ Khaled is on a hot streak with "Wild Thoughts" (featuring Rihanna and Bryson Tiller) and "I'm the One" (featuring Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper, and Lil Wayne), as does Calvin Harris with "Feels" (featuring Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry, and Big Sean), and "Slide" (featuring Frank Ocean and Migos). And no: Ed Sheeran's "Shape of You" will not be making an appearance either.

Here are our choices — complete with their most up-to-date numbers at the time of publishing:

1. “That’s What I Like” by Bruno Mars

Bruno Mars makes a strong showing with "That's What I Like" off 24K Magic. With more than 460 million streams on Spotify, the hitmaker has done it again. Mars never stops dancing in the song's accompanying video — which has racked up 734 million views already — and there's a good reason for that. You'll be dancing for the entire runtime because the beat is just that good.

2. "Crying in the Club" by Camila Cabello

As we anxiously await Camila Cabello's solo album — titled The Hurting. The Healing. The Loving. and due out September 22 — since leaving Fifth Harmony, we luckily got our first taste with the Sia-penned "Crying in the Club." We dare you to not move your hips to this jam, which has been streamed more than 100 million times on Spotify. The music video, with nearly 55 million views, also gives us a 2-for-1 by featuring "I Have Questions" in it as well.

3. "Love You Like Me" by Che'Nelle (featuring Konshens)

Che'Nelle blessed us with another banger this summer, this time with "Love You Like Me" featuring Konshens. The song is from the Malaysian-Australian singer's fifth album in Japan, titled Destiny, which was released just this month. The beat to this tune will keep you jamming all summer long.

4. "Cut to the Feeling" by Carly Rae Jepsen

Following up 2015's Emotion and its flip-side follow-up in 2016, Carly Rae Jepsen is back in action, serving pop music sweet enough to give you a sweet tooth. "Cut to the Feeling" is a solid choice for your summer jam and has already racked up nearly 8 million streams on Spotify. It was recorded for the Canadian-French film Ballerina (titled Leap! in the U.S.), and has won over critics and fans alike.

5. “Passionfruit” by Drake

It's hard to talk about catchy songs and not mention Drake. Either by making them himself or lending his voice to them, he always has a way of getting to the top of the charts and pleasing our ears in the process. "Passionfruit" off More Life is no different and, with about 320 million streams on Spotify, it sure seems to be getting a lot of people to groove with it.

6. “New Rules” by Dua Lipa

A newcomer, Dua Lipa has already captured our hearts — and ears — with "New Rules." With a name that literally means "love" in Albanian, it's hard not to adore this young woman whose debut album, a self-titled one, was just released. With "New Rules" being catchy — and having a simple, stylish, and squad-inspiring music video to match — the Cuban-born newbie has earned this spot. The song's music video has 27 million views and has been streamed about 17.5 million times on Spotify.

7. “Swish Swish” by Katy Perry (feat. Nicki Minaj)

It's hard to deny that Katy Perry's "Swish Swish" featuring Nicki Minaj doesn't make you want to move your hips. The song has about 75 million streams on Spotify and, while we're still waiting for an official music video, there's a fabulous Saturday Night Live performance and a fun lyric video (featuring Brazilian GIF queen Gretchen with nearly 34 million views) that you have to see (above).

8. “Woman” by Kesha (feat. The Dap-Kings Horns)

Kesha burst back on the scene with "Praying" — an emotional song with a very meaningful music video to match — but it's another tune that we'll have blasting all summer long. "Woman" is the female empowerment anthem you never knew you needed that gets a major assist in groove factor thanks to The Dap-Kings horn section. The music video has garnered more than 6 million views and more than 3 million streams on Spotify. Can it just be August 11 so we can have Rainbow in its entirety, please?

9. “Strip That Down” by Liam Payne (feat. Quavo)

With One Direction on hiatus, each member is doing their own thing. Liam Payne dropped "Strip That Down" — which was co-written with Ed Sheeran — and we have been unable to get it out of our heads ever since. Featuring Quavo, the song has gotten more than 166 million streams on Spotify and has a music video that has been seen nearly 60 million times. Each of the other 1D guys are going in such different directions, pun intended, and we love what Payne is doing.

10. “Power” by Little Mix (featuring Stormzy)

Little Mix has us singing along at the top of our lungs to "Power" — another female empowerment anthem. Off the British girl group's Glory Days album and featuring Stormzy, the ladies have racked up a lot of love for the track, including more than 20 million streams on Spotify and a music video with about 55 million views. The clip — which features the band's moms as well as a few RuPaul's Drag Race alums — is super fun, too.

11. “Green Light” by Lorde

Lorde is finally back and the wait was so worth it. The New Zealand-born singer dropped Melodrama recently and the lead song and first single, "Green Light," is one that we can't stop listening to. The tune has nearly 160 million streams on Spotify and the music video about half of that at just over 80 million views. While Lorde's songs are always catchy, this one does something different: it makes you want to dance.

12. “Hard Times” by Paramore

Paramore's latest album, After Laughter, is a vibrant departure for the group as it is a little more pop but still holding onto their punk edge — but that doesn't mean it isn't genius. "Hard Times," the lead track and first single, has an '80s feel and the vocals of Hayley Williams are superb. The music video has more than 40 million views and about 44 million streams on Spotify.

13. “Bad Liar” by Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez added a super-cool edge to "Bad Liar" by going back to the '80s and sampling the bassline from a Talking Heads song. The draw for this tune — in addition to the lyrics, vocals, and everything that makes it pop — is the complex story embedded in the music video. This song has gotten nearly 500 million streams on Spotify and the aforementioned clip has been seen more than 106 million times. You'll be listening to this one until Gomez gives us another full-length album.
