Video Shows How Easy It Is To Miss The Signs Of Depression

An important reminder.

If you believed that the smallest gestures mean nothing, a recent BuzzFeed video will show you why you should take the time to be considerate to everyone you know.

The video's main character goes through the same daily routine: he wakes up in the morning, sits in traffic, his unnamed colleague wishes him "good morning" at work, he sits at his desk, eats lunch, his unnamed colleague wishes him "good night" when he leaves, he watches television, and goes to bed.


That seemingly mundane cycle continues until one day he discovers that his previously unnamed colleague took his own life. He had been so wrapped up in his own world that he had no idea that a co-worker was going through something huge.

According to the World Health Organization, depression is the leading cause of global disabilities and disproportionally affects women. About 350 million people suffer from the mood disorder.

While symptoms vary between individuals, the National Institutes of Health concluded that common symptoms include sadness, hopelessness, loss of interest, fatigue, sleep problems and changing appetites.

As in many cases, depression is not an easy disease to detect, just like with Ricky.

There is still a stigma surrounding depression and most health insurance plans in the U.S. don't fully cover it.
