Sia Marked A Milestone With A Tweet And Sage Advice For Others Following Her Footsteps

Congrats, Sia!

We all love Sia as the epic songwriter whose powerful voice dominates the pop charts, but now the wig-wearing Aussie is celebrating a different side of herself. In a tweet that is short but meaningful, she announced the eight-year anniversary of her sobriety.

"Eight years sober today," the ever-inspiring 42-year old wrote, getting lots of love from fans in the process. "I love you, keep going. You can do it."

Sia has been quite open about her struggles with substance abuse in the past — not just in interviews but in songs like "Chandelier," too — and it is empowering to see that she continues to embrace her new life years later. Sia has previously admitted to using therapy, medication, and 12-step meetings to kick addiction — as well as suicidal thoughts and an attempt — to the curb.

"I was an alcoholic and a drug addict," she told James Corden in a 2016 installment of Carpool Karaoke, explaining the reason behind her now-iconic wig. "I sobered up and decided I didn't want to be an artist anymore because I was starting to get a little bit famous and it was destabilizing in some way. So I thought, what doesn't exist in pop music at the moment? And it was mystery."

A recent Rolling Stone profile dives deeper into Sia's life and capability to churn out hits. Over the years, the nine-time Grammy nominee admitted to having learned that people want a "victim to victory" theme or just "fun jams" when it comes to what they listen to, so that's what she writes. For those that connect to her life on another level, though, those are kept, not given away.
