Ryan Reynolds Had A Heartwarming Surprise For This Young 'Deadpool' Fan Dealing With Cancer

The actor made time for a FaceTime call.

Actor Ryan Reynolds recently took time out from filming Deadpool 2 to give 5-year-old fan Daniel Downing a call. Daniel, who is from Plymouth, England, has been diagnosed with an aggressive cancer called pontine glioma. He reportedly has an inoperable brain tumor and was given only months to live.

Daniel is a huge Marvel fan, and loves Reynolds' role as Deadpool, so the actor contacted him from the set of the next movie. In a video of the sweet moment, the young fan asks if he and Reynolds can FaceTime, and the actor happily obliges.

Reynolds complimented Daniel's Deadpool T-shirt, telling him, according to E! News, "You know I'm the only guy who doesn't have one of those T-shirts, I need to get one of those." Their 15-minute conversation even included a tour of the Deadpool 2 set.

A crowdfunding page to help Daniel's family pay for his treatment has surpassed its £6,000 goal, with more than £17,000 raised as of this writing. The page describes him as "full of life, mischievous, polite, intelligent, innocent, and above all, loving."

"I'm so happy for Daniel — it's something he wouldn't normally have been able to do and he was so excited. He told all his friends and his teachers. It's nice to see him so excited because he has been a bit down lately," Daniel's mother Stephanie told the Plymouth Herald.

This isn't the first time Reynolds has done something special for his fans. Last year, he wrote a tribute to a 13-year-old fan who died of leukemia. The actor had surprised him with an early screening of Deadpool. In December, he dedicated his Critics' Choice Entertainer of the Year Award to cancer charities, as well as two young fans who passed away.

"The character [Deadpool] had cancer, and some of the people that this character resonated with were sick kids," Reynolds explained in his speech.
