How Ryan Murphy Is Giving Back To The Hospital That Treated His Son's Cancer

"No child is turned away."

Earlier this week, TV producer Ryan Murphy shared an emotional Instagram post about his son Ford. Murphy, who has created such shows as American Horror Story, Glee, and Pose, posted a photo of Ford riding a horse, and revealed that the 4-year-old was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, an "often fatal pediatric cancer," two years ago.

Murphy describes Ford's cancer as "an abdominal tumor the size of a tennis ball," which was discovered during a routine check-up. "From there, Ford has undergone a huge surgery and several difficult procedures," he wrote. "My better half, David Miller, was a rock through this — strong and patient and loving (I was always a trembling wreck). Ford was strong as well, and today he is thriving."

Murphy credits Children's Hospital Los Angeles for treating Ford, adding how "thrilled" he and Miller are that their son was recently able to celebrate his fourth birthday. To show their gratitude to the hospital, Murphy shared that they are donating a wing in "in tribute to Ford," as well as gifting $10 million, "so that other children can experience the love and care of this exceptional facility."

As Deadline points out, Children's Hospital Los Angeles is where Jimmy Kimmel's newborn son Billy underwent open-heart surgery last year. Kimmel shared the emotional journey with viewers and urged them to donate to the hospital. Ellen DeGeneres later surprised Kimmel with the news that a room at the hospital had been dedicated to Billy.

Children's Hospital Los Angeles reportedly raised $5.5 million at its annual fundraiser on Saturday, including a $1 million from Kimmel and his wife Molly McNearney.

"No child is turned away at Children's Hospital," Murphy wrote to close his Instagram post. "We are so honored and lucky to contribute, and encourage everybody who can to do the same. We love you, Ford."
