This 7-Year-Old Loves Recycling So Much, He Created A Successful Business Out Of It

He has recycled over 200,000 bottles, and made over $20,000.

Seven-year-old Ryan Hickman loves recycling so much, he decided to turn his passion into a business.

Ryan's Recycling was born in 2012 when Ryan was a mere 3 years old. The California company explains on its website that Ryan first realized his passion for recycling when his dad took him to a recycling center and they cashed in a small bag of recyclables.

The next day, Ryan was inspired to recycle more. He began recycling things around the house. From there, it expanded to recycling bottles and bags from family, friends, and neighbors. Almost five years later, Ryan's Recycling now has customers all around Orange County, California. They're able to schedule him to pick up their recyclables from their homes and offices. Then he takes them to be properly disposed of.

To date, Ryan has recycled a whopping 220,000 bottles and cans, and has properly disposed of 50,000 pounds of recyclables.

That equates to a staggering $21,000. And the money is going towards good causes. To date, he has donated over $4,000 to the Pacific Marine Mammal Center, where he is a youth ambassador. Furthermore, Ryan has a "Buy a Shirt, Save a Seal or Sea Lion" program

Recycling is directly linked to helping the oceans as World Watch reports that 300 million tons of plastic is produced each year, but  78 percent never gets recycled. One Green Planet states a lot of the plastic ends up in the oceans where it harms marine life. For this reason, Ryan's recycling efforts and donations are so important.

Ryan has also saved $10,000 for college, and eventually hopes to get his own recycling truck.

The business doesn't stop when Ryan's in school. His dad, Damion Hickman, explained to CNN that Ryan and his friends help out their janitor, Mr. Jose, too. "He's actually recruited his friends now so it's Ryan and five of his friends helping Mr. Jose," Hickman explained.
