These Stars Want You To Take Action On Black Friday, And It Has Nothing To Do With Shopping

Funny or Die is "reclaiming Black Friday."

This Black Friday, you may be tempted to head out to the mall to score a few deals, but a new PSA from Funny or Die and The Collective PAC offers a better idea for how you can spend your time (and your money). The video, released on Thanksgiving Day, features several Black celebrities and activists who want to "reclaim" Black Friday for an important cause — electing more Black politicians.

"Instead of splurging on stuff, let's spend our money on progress, by boosting Black politics," says actress Meagan Good, who later points out that "90 percent of the elected officials in this country are White," which doesn't accurately reflect the U.S. population.

As political strategist Carri Twigg and actress Yvette Nicole Brown explain, when Black politicians are that underrepresented, it means "there's a lot of people making a lot of decisions that don't really understand the needs of the the Black community" — including issues such as police brutality, public schooling, and mass incarceration.

"Instead of standing in line, let's stand for a cause," actor Dulé Hill tells viewers, who are encouraged to use the hashtag #ReclaimBlackFriday on social media, and text "RECLAIM" to 484848 to donate money to support Black candidates for office.
