Politicians Come Together On Twitter Following Shooting At GOP Baseball Game

"No partisan politics over this. Let's come together against evil."

Rep. Steve Scalise was shot during a Republican congressional baseball practice Wednesday morning in what many are describing as a "deliberate attack."

Within minutes of reports about the shooting, Alexandria Police took to Twitter to let the public know the shooter was in custody and not a threat.

The police department also told Fox News that five people were "transported medically" from the scene, although there is no confirmation yet about how many people were shot.

It didn't take long for news of the shooting to spread throughout Washington. Democrats and Republicans alike took to Twitter, Facebook and television to offer their thoughts and prayers for the victims of the shooting. Many also called for unity in the aftermath of a tragedy and for their colleagues to set aside partisan politics.

Below, we've compiled several of their tweets.

Garbielle Giffords, the former Arizona congressman who survived a gunshot to the head in 2011, also took to Twitter to offer love for her former colleagues.
