Here's How You Can Help Pacifica Turn Your Trash Into New Products

The empties will be upcycled into toothbrushes and razors.

Considering the amount of beauty products most people consume each day, it's no surprise a huge amount of waste is accumulated. Just think about all those empty cleansers, shower gels, shampoos, soaps, bubble baths and more piling up in the trash. While a lot of the packaging is recyclable, some beauty brands are going a step further to be extra sustainable.

One such brand is Pacifica, which recently launched a recycling program with Preserve, a company that makes eco-friendly products for the home.

The upcycling program turns empty Pacifica packages into toothbrushes and razors.

Pacifica explains on its website that people can get involved with the program simply by filling out a form on the brand's website about the empty product(s) they're recycling. The beauty brand will provide a pre-paid shipping label for people to ship their rinsed empties — ideally in a recycled box, bag or envelope.

The products will then get new life as something else.

There's more of an incentive to participate in the program because Pacifica users receive points for the products that they recycle. The points can be used on the Pacifica website towards new products.

According to a release, Pacifica's founder, Brook Harvey-Taylor, took four years to develop the program. It's a continued effort of the beauty brand's mission to exercise sustainable practices.

The brand produces cruelty-free, vegan products and has been making recyclable paper pallets since the launch of its color products five years ago. Additionally, it creates custom perfume bottles without a screw top so they can be cycled.

Pacifica has a goal to use at least 50 percent post-consumer recycled (PCR) material in its plastics by 2020.

Most of the products made with PCR materials will still be eligible for the recycling program and able to be recycled at home.
