Oprah Gave 2020 Presidential Candidates Some Razor-Sharp Advice

"Do not spend all your time talking about your opponents."

Whenever media mogul Oprah Winfrey speaks, people listen. This was especially true when the billionaire television personality gave a riveting speech while accepting the Cecil B. Demille Award at this year's Golden Globes. The speech had many calling for Winfrey to run for president in the next presidential election. Though Winfrey has stated that she has no intention of doing so, she did offer some advice to whoever might be considering a run while making an appearance on CNN's The Van Jones Show.

Winfrey, who appeared on the show alongside director Ava DuVernay in promotion of their recent film A Wrinkle In Time, got fairly candid with the show host Van Jones while discussing the themes of the film. "For these times, the darkness is there to show you your light," Winfrey said while speaking on the film's message of tapping into your light to fight against the darkness of the world. "It brings out the best in people," she said, alluding to the positive impact brought about as a direct result of tragedies like the recent school shooting in Parkland, Fla.

Winfrey pivoted to the political, first stating emphatically, "I am not running for office." She then offered a bit of advice for anyone who might be considering throwing the hat in the ring. "But If I were running for office, and I will say to whoever is going to run for office, do not give your energy to the other side," she said. "Do not spend all your time talking about your opponents. Do not give your energy to that which you really don't believe in. Do not spend an ounce of your time on that."

Though she continued to dash the hopes of many who want an Oprah 2020 run, she did offer a comment on what she would say if she had time to talk with President Trump. "I would only speak if I felt that I could be heard," she told Jones.
