"We believe that's a step in the right direction."

One organization is going to great lengths to take an armored stance toward creating safer gun laws.

Americans for Responsible Solutions –– an advocacy organization dedicated to preventing gun violence –– recently teamed up with Ogilvy & Mather's Chicago division to create a powerful message about why gun reform needs to happen in America. Gabrielle Giffords, who formerly served for the U.S. House of Representatives, and her husband, Mark Kelly, started the organization after the 2012 Sandy Hook elementary school shooting and the Tuscon shooting that almost cost Giffords her life in 2011.

Their conclusion? Creating a poster. And not just any poster. A bulletproof one. The poster, which is made out of fiber, is up in various parts of Chicago, New York City, and Washington, D.C. It even has a home in front of the White House.

The organization's message is simple: every gun sale should require a strict background check, no matter where a transaction takes place. As of right now, the federal government only requires these checks to occur when a gun has been purchased from a licensed firearm dealer.

"Background checks save lives, period," ARS' Executive Director Peter Ambler said to Adweek. "If we want to make our communities safer from gun violence, background checks are a tested solution."

Adweek also spoke to Ogilvy Chicago's Chief Creative Officer Joe Sciarrotta about his thoughts on the campaign's impact on others.

"With so much polarizing rhetoric around the gun-violence epidemic, we wanted to present the message in a straightforward yet surprising way, he said. "From New York to D.C. to Chicago, these bulletproof posters got people talking about current lax gun laws, and we believe that's a step in the right direction."

The two organizations also teamed up to create this ad about the poster. Watch it in its entirety below:
