Nick Cannon Talks 'Motivation' From His Great-Grandmother And How She Inspired A New Song

"There’s an uprising that is long overdue."

Just in time for both Black History Month and Women's History Month, Nick Cannon hit us with a song that combines the two and offers up a lot of, well, "Motivation."

A Plus caught up with the Drumline star at a studio in New York City to discuss the new track, which is personal to him as his 98-year-old great-grandmother, Corinne Cannon, appears in it. Not only is this a love letter to strong Black women — like the ones Cannon was raised by — but he notes that all women are worthy of being celebrated.

"I definitely see it improving for just women in general," Cannon said when asked about women, specifically Black women, as the Wild 'N Out creator's great-grandmother points out in the music video, beginning to not sell themselves short. "We all know it's in the air, that there's an uprising that is long overdue."

Cannon points to strong role models such as Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey, and Hillary Clinton as being "wonderful examples" who have proven that they can be just as strong as if not more powerful than their male counterparts.
