8-Year-Old Girl Writes Bestseller About Dealing With Her Little Brother

Her book was a summer project that had unexpected results.

At 8 years old, Nia Mya Reese has spent more than half her life as a big sister to her 5-year-old brother Ronald Michael. She knows something about the care and feeding of a younger sibling — so much, in fact, that she took it upon herself to write How to Deal with and Care for Your Annoying Little Brother, a book that is now a best-seller on Amazon.com.

According to CBS News, the genesis of the project was an assignment from Nia Mya's first-grade teacher Beth Hankins last year, which challenged students to write about a subject that they were an expert in. "And Nia Mya," Hankins revealed in an interview, "shared that she was a great big sister to an annoying little brother."

Nia Mya, who says it only took a few days to write the book, talked to CBS about some of the annoyances that she's learned to deal with over the last five years.

"He will throw the ball and the ball will just go flying everywhere," she told reporters. "And it sometimes hits me."
