This Magic Trick Wasn't Going Well For Neil Patrick Harris — Until The Very End

We are all Ellen DeGeneres.

We all know Neil Patrick Harris is a big fan of magic, but a recent appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show featured trick after trick that seemed to fail — until one didn't. The 44-year-old was there to promote his new book, The Magic Misfits, and he couldn't pass up the opportunity to indulge the host in one of the quirks that makes us love him so much.

The Magic Misfits, the first of four in a series, is intended for kids 8 or 9 — even up to 89, Harris notes. From the sound of it, the book is about a group of children who love magic and come together to use their powers for good. It's something Harris wants to share with the world, specifically twins Harper and Gideon shared with husband David Burtka.

"I think it's fun to be able to write stuff that I want my kids to be able to read, and to impart some subtle lessons of inclusion and diversity and being proud of what makes you unique," the former How I Met Your Mother star said.

Things soon took a more magical direction, with Harris attempting a card trick with DeGeneres (and failing to properly shuffle the cards) and then tried another where DeGeneres would randomly pick something that Harris supposedly had in a box (she chose a hot tub but, of course, there was no actual hot tub in the box). Everything seemed to be falling apart.

But wait! Just when you thought the trick was over and Harris would have to get back to practicing these feats, DeGeneres got quite the surprise and, somehow, things came together. We won't tell you how, though — you'll just have to watch for yourself.
