After Giving Birth To Twins, This Mom's Outlook On Her Body Changed

"My kid's alive. That's all the matters."

Every person's post-pregnancy body looks different, but having a child can often result in scars, stretch marks, and flabby skin. Feeling confident in your postpartum body isn't always easy and many mothers turn to plastic surgery to tighten everything back up. Singer-songwriter Alexa Wilding wants people to know there's another choice.

In a video for Allure, the mom shared her journey to feeling self-love and confident in her postpartum body. Wilding had twin boys, one of which endured cancer treatment. She suffered a hernia and was talked into a tummy tuck by a doctor. Several months after her plastic surgery, the skin on her stomach started to become looser and sag again. "I called the surgeon and he was like, 'Well, the skin was so stretched. It lost its elasticity. We're going to maybe have to do another one.'" Wilding decided to opt out. She chose to accept and love her new body instead of trying to change it back to what it was like before she gave birth to her sons.

"So many women are trying to erase that rite of passage from their bodies, from their faces, their experiences. The old me needed everyone to tell her all the time that she was beautiful, smart, cool looking, and her music was interesting," Wilding said. "In a strange way, I'm free now. I'm still learning to be comfortable with being free, but I'm starting to feel a new sexiness. It's like a little seed that's just starting to sprout. I don't know what it's going to be or what it's going to look like, but it's coming."
