Instead Of An Emmy Campaign This Year, ‘Mom’ Donated $250,000 To Planned Parenthood

You can contribute, too.

In lieu of spending tons of money on campaigning for the Emmys, the famous faces behind Mom have made a substantial donation to Planned Parenthood. The total amount kicking things off by foregoing the typical campaign season is $250,000.

"In Los Angeles County alone, we answer approximately 2,000 calls each day from people asking us for help," Sue Dunlap, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Los Angeles, said, per Variety.

"Across the country, millions of women and men are relying on Planned Parenthood health centers for their basic care — like birth control, life-saving cancer screenings, and STD testing and treatment," Dunlap continued. "We are committed to being here for them, no matter what. Generous support from our community fuels this work, and we are honored that the team behind Mom is launching this campaign at this critical time."

The announcement was made on CBS This Morning with co-creator and executive producer Chuck Lorre, as well as star Allison Janney, also encouraging viewers to do the same. Fans of Mom can donate to support Planned Parenthood, too, via this special link established as part of the show's campaign.

As part of the CBS sitcom's legacy, Mom — which also stars Anna Faris — has made an effort to cover hard-hitting topics throughout its four seasons such as suicide, addiction, and more. This move to back Planned Parenthood comes as the American Health Care Act is making its way through Congressand threatens to affect those who utilize the organization.

Mom — which has been renewed for a fifth season — has garnered four Emmy nominations in the past, with three being for Janney's acting. Of those three, Janney has won twice. Let's see if this year's philanthropical campaign decision will snag more trophies for the show and its stars.
