Model Walks Down The Runway, Then Reveals She's Wearing A Breast Pump

Elvie is reported to be the world's first silent wearable breast pump and launched at London Fashion Week.

We don't often think about motherhood when watching fashion shows, but this year, mothers were celebrated on the runways. Most recently, model Valeria Garcia showed off what it means to be an empowered mother when she walked the runway at Marta Jakubowski's London Fashion Week Spring 2019 show wearing a breast pump.

During the finale, Garcia walked the runway with an open blazer to expose a black bra and the breast pump she had been wearing the entire time. Elvie revealed the mom-of-two is wearing its new Elvie Pump, which launched during the show at London Fashion Week. The device is reported to be the world's first silent wearable breast pump.

Garcia's runway appearance came after two pregnant models were featured in Rihanna's Savage x Fenty NYFW show, model Lily Aldridge, who is five months pregnant, graced the runway at the Brandon Maxwell show, and model Mara Martin breastfed her 5-month-old daughter during a Sports Illustrated fashion show.

"I can't believe I am waking up to headlines with me and my daughter in them for doing something I do every day," Martin wrote on Instagram." It is truly so humbling and unreal, to say the least."

"I'm so grateful to be able to share this message and hopefully normalize breastfeeding and also show others that women CAN DO IT ALL!"

Even though breastfeeding is a natural thing, doing it in public remains taboo for many. Mothers are often shamed for breastfeeding openly, which is why initiating dialogue about the topic and helping to normalize it is so important.  Having a model strut down the runway with a breast pump in full display will hopefully help shatter the stigma and allow people to appreciate all aspects of motherhood and nursing.
