This Touching Sign From A Soldier Brought Miranda Lambert To Tears On Stage

She stopped singing to share the message.

During a recent concert in Hartford, Conn., country star Miranda Lambert was performing her Grammy-winning song "The House That Built Me" when she noticed a fan holding a sign in the audience. She immediately stopped singing so she could share the message with the rest of the crowd.

The sign, written by a soldier, read the following: "3 combat tours ... [Your] voice was the last thing I listened to EVERY NIGHT! THANK YOU!!!"

The audience cheered as Lambert held up the sign. The moment brought her to tears, and a fan video shows that the soldier was just as moved, wiping his eyes and mouthing "thank you" to the singer.

Lambert was so emotional that she had trouble getting back into the song and had to call on fans to help her. "Second verse," she said. "I gotta get a drink. Y'all gotta do this."

The singer continued to wipe away tears as she mouthed along to the crowd's collective voices, occasionally singing into the microphone. She managed to perform the song's closing lines before pointing to the soldier and then the rest of the audience and telling them, "Thank you."

She later told the crowd, "Just to set the record straight, I'm crying because somebody's a badass down here."

The soldier's wife replied to a few Twitter posts about the moment, saying how much it meant to him. She even shared a photo of her husband's excitement during the concert, which was his fifth time seeing Lambert live.

Lambert has a history of showing support for the U.S. troops. In 2014, she and her then-husband, fellow country singer Blake Shelton, performed a duet as part of the CBS special ACM Presents: An All-Star Salute to the Troops. Proceeds from the event's ticket sales went to ACM Lifting Lives, which seeks to improve lives through music. That includes supporting music therapy and providing grants for veterans.
