Melissa McCarthy Sets Out To Save The Environment, With Slapstick Results, In This Super Bowl Ad

She really is a hero.

The environment needs a hero, and Melissa McCarthy is the one for the job.

The actress stars in Kia's new Super Bowl ad, in which she sets out on a one-woman quest to save the planet. Of course, no commercial would be complete without McCarthy's signature slapstick comedy, so things don't exactly go according to plan.

First, she tries to save the whales, only to find herself catapulted into the air. Then she climbs a tree to keep it from being cut down, which unfortunately doesn't stop the guy with the chainsaw.

Next up, she braves a melting polar ice cap before trying (and failing) to outrun a rhinoceros who didn't quite get the memo that she's there to save him. It's all set to Bonnie Tyler's "I Need a Hero."

"It's hard being an eco-warrior," the narrator says, "but it's easy to drive like one." The clip is, of course, advertising the 2017 Kia Niro, a new hybrid crossover.

The commercial, which joins Budweiser's tribute to immigrants among this year's Super Bowl ads with a message, does make a good point. We may not all be able to go to the frontlines to save the environment, but we can still do our part, whether that means recycling, donating money, or driving a fuel-efficient car.
