MacKenzie Bezos Pledges Half Of Her Fortune To Charity

"I have a disproportionate amount of money to share."

MacKenzie Bezos, the third richest woman in the world worth an estimated $37 billion, has pledged half of her net worth to charity.

Bezos signed The Giving Pledge, which asks the world's wealthiest people to dedicate more than half of their wealth to a charity either in their wills or while they are still alive. Bezos, who recently divorced Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, ranks 22nd on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

"I have a disproportionate amount of money to share," Bezos wrote in a letter explaining the pledge. "My approach to philanthropy will continue to be thoughtful. It will take time and effort and care. But I won't wait. And I will keep at it until the safe is empty."

The Giving Pledge was launched by Warren Buffet and Bill and Melinda Gates in 2010. So far, 204 people and families have signed the pledge.

"The generosity of this group is a reflection of the inspiration we take from the many millions of people who work quietly and effectively to create a better world for others, often at great personal sacrifice," Buffett said in a statement.
